What is RFID?
Learn about RFID and what it's used for.
Many of our products now come standard with RFID tags. In this section, you'll learn about the advantages of RFID tags, the equipment needed to read them, and whether retrofitting an RFID tag on a lifting tool could add value.
RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) is a technology that enables communication between an RFID tag and a scanner via radio waves. A scanner reads the information stored on the RFID tag, which is then saved in a database. These tags are often very small and can be attached to a wide range of products, including textiles. The communication is bidirectional, allowing most tags to be both read and written to.
We utilize RFID technology for easy identification of lifting products during service inspections. It simplifies tracking the service status of products, with data registered in our CertMax+ certification system. Alternatively, data can be recorded in a basic spreadsheet program like Excel. CertMax+/Onix Works access is included with your service agreement with CERTEX, giving you complete visibility into the history of your lifting equipment.
Yes, it can. We can retrofit a chip directly onto the product or attach it via a badge with an RFID tag. While adding RFID comes with an initial cost, the time saved by scanning the tag instead of manually registering data quickly offsets this expense.
No, lifting equipment without an identification plate is not approved for use. However, if the tool has lost its identification plate but is equipped with an RFID tag with data registered in a system, it can be easily identified, allowing a new identification plate to be issued.
