Developments in Load Securing: Equipment and Calculations

Significant advancements have been made in load securing, both in lashing equipment and in methods for calculating the necessary load securing requirements.

Load Securing Requirements

Ensure that your load securing complies with current regulations to achieve approval. If the load will be transferred between different modes of transport (e.g., ship, train, road), it’s essential to meet the specific requirements for each type of transport, including on trailers and in containers.

During road transport, the load securing must be capable of withstanding:

  • 0.8 times the load weight forward,
  • 0.5 times the load weight laterally,
  • 0.5 times the load weight against the direction of travel, and
  • Additional support if there is a risk of tipping.

CERTEX Norway’s POWERTEX lashings, with a lashing capacity of 400 kg or more, are manufactured and marked to meet these requirements.

Load lashing directions of load
Abbreviation Meaning Description
LC Lashing Capacity Lashing capacity according to EN 12195
STF* Standard Tension Force Tension force in the lashing at 50 daN ** in the ratchet handle
BL, (S) BL Breaking Load Breaking Load
* May be missing on the smaller 25 mm wide lashings
** 1 daN ≈ 1 kp ≈ 1 kg

Best Practices for Using Split Lashings

When using split lashings, ensure that you use the correct short and long parts. Using the wrong components can result in incorrect label values. If you need to supplement your POWERTEX lashing, please contact your local CERTEX department.

CERTEX Norway is committed to continuously developing and improving our products. As a result, information about Standard Tension Force (STF) may change over time. However, the catalog always reflects at least the minimum STF requirements.
